Heavy Reading Examines Current Climate for Pay TV Service

‘Making TV Pay: The Telco Challenge’ at TelcoTV 2009

Most up-to-date, exclusive consumer survey on pay TV services from service providers
gathers critical data on provider preferences, satisfaction levels, and churn drivers

Building on the interest in primary research highlighted at last year's Telco TV, Heavy Reading will be unveiling the results of a new study, “Making TV Pay: The Telco Challenge,” at TelcoTV 2009 on Wednesday November 11 at 12:30 pm in room N220 G. This new research addresses changes in subscribers’ mindsets over the last 12 months, comparing last year’s findings with the current survey fielded in September 2009. It identifies changes in consumer attitudes, their satisfaction levels with their pay TV providers, their interest in new digital applications, and their willingness to consider a new pay TV provider. The study analyzes changes in consumers’ thinking, helping companies across the IPTV value chain identify current market trends and consumer attitudes enabling more targeted, cost-effective marketing programs and service offerings. In addition, this year's study examines consumer adoption of over-the-top video, and provides insight into its market disruption potential.

Delivering on the Quality Promise: Internet Video on Your 50-inch HDTV (And Loving It)

New Media: Managing a Brave New World
Comparing emerging Internet video on an HDTV to today’s linear video draws comparisons to what the Web was to AOL in the late 1990s; the future vs. the past. Telcos contemplating their first video offerings may look to less complex Internet video offerings that may be aligned with emerging consumer viewing trends. Early adopter telcoTV operators can look to internet video to further increase revenue and expand broadband market share. This panel discussion at TelcoTV will examine Internet video delivery ecosystems that satisfy both consumer quality expectations and telco business model considerations. Workshop Subject Matter Just Announced

TelcoTV will hold three workshops on Tuesday, November 10th. Workshops are sponsored by Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco and Conklin-Intracom.

Alcatel-Lucent has just announced their topic:

Effectively Delivering Triple Play Services while Minimizing Costs
As voice revenues and market share decline, regional communications providers need effective new ways to increase subscriber ARPU — and fend off intensified competition from cable, satellite and Internet video providers. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) represents a unique opportunity for network operators to upgrade their networks and greatly enhance their service delivery capabilities. IP video is a key component for serving communities, and IPTV, in particular, represents essential next-generation services which open up valuable revenue opportunities. This Workshop will highlight those revenue opportunities and discuss a streamlined delivery of triple play services with an end-to-end, tested solution that supports a wide range of IP video capabilities. It will address the unique challenges of operators in low-density markets.

And Conklin-Intracom has announced their's as well:

IPTV Ecosystem Building Workshop
Every successful IPTV deployment shares common characteristics: highly knowledgeable service providers and solution providers bringing together people and technologies to meet and exceed the quality of experience expectations of IPTV subscribers. This fast-paced workshop is packed with real world insight and guidance on topics including (but not limited to) business case creation, new content acquisition, transport and distribution technologies, differentiation through local content development, local advertising monetization, network optimization & troubleshooting. Service providers will walk away with an enhanced, comprehensive view of the current state of the IPTV ecosystem and how best to benefit from the new products and services available in order to increase customer satisfaction, retain subscribers and increase revenues.

Cisco's session topic should be available in the next week or so - I'll keep you posted
